AAMC Residency Explorer Tool™

UI/UX Design, Prototyping, and Front-End Development

The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) and their partners provides a tool for medical students to identify residency programs where they are a competitive candidate and that align with their career interests and personal needs. The client asked that we redesigned their residency explorer tool as it was outdated and address UI/UX complaints from students. We participated in UI/UX user group studies to facilitate solutions to many of the issues that were posed to the client about the current state of their tool, such as: having a hard time identifying what schools they matched with, navigating between pages in the tool, viewing the sections on the program details page.

I lead the redesign of the tool in matters of user interface and experience through the tool, providing consultation, and then developing the front-end design from prototype to final application. My full list of responsibilities include:

  • UI/UX design and consultation for a total of 18 screens for the new application.
  • Designing and presentating prototypes with visual mockups to show the AAMC UI/UX research team and the client and their partners to show the application works from a user perspective, using Adobe Illustrator and Adobe XD.
  • Creating the design system to create a conistent look and feel that matches their branding and best standards in reporting software.
  • Provide documentation on user flows, development notes, and integration of our in-house developer's advise on database specs to support the new features of the tool.
