Beware of Badware

Tampa Bay Silver Addy Award - Digital Advertising Category

Interactive in-browser game created for Verizon’s “Small Business” company and was accomplished along side copywriter, project managers, and a front-end developer. The interactive game was the first design to win a silver addy award for Kobie Marketing. You can view the award listing by click “awards” in the footer sitemap on kobie.com.

Main goal:
To communicate the benefits of purchasing the Verizon Security Suite to their loyalty program users part of the “Small Biz” program. This game was housed in their “Small Biztown” in-browser application that showcased small games and information that rewarded their users with loyalty points when completed.

My role:
Conceptualize and design a game that showcased the benefits of the Verizon Security Suite. Worked with copywriter and front-end developer. Presented storyboard to client and provided mockups with animated gifs to be used for game development.

More Information:
The game is inspired by real viruses and pathogens to represent the malware that can infect devices. The player selects their avatar, a device, that they must protect from “badware” that tries to take over the device. The badware can be destroyed by clicking the virus before it reaches the device. A time limit of 30 seconds that also makes the game harder by flooding the game area with more viruses as the timer runs out. If the player successfully destroys all badware by the end of 30 seconds, they win. If the badware reaches the device, it takes control and the player loses the game.

Design tools used:
Adobe Photoshop (mockups and GIF animations), Adobe Illustrator (storyboards)
