Traveler

The landscape is based on the Chautauqua mountains in Larkspur, CO.

I did some traveling my own in 2024 that garnered many of the feelings I get when immersed in the world around me. With our limited time here, I like to play the role of "traveler" no matter where I am, since it can have that wonder of a visit to somewhere new or familiar.

Fountain Valley

The valley in Roxborough State Park in Littleton, CO.

Acrylic, 12x12in Stretched Canvas, 2022.

The finished painting of a series I did of the red rocks in Roxborough Park. This was inspired by contemporary western landscape painters I've seen in the the Denver Contemporary Art Museum.

My attempt was to try the seemingly simple brushwork and textures they used to depict different types of land compoments, from rocks to bushes. It's pretty cool how some simple (yet tedious) brushwork can create movement and form without being realistic.
